Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
Those are the words I ask myself every day right before I work out. It’s been my fitness motto for over 7 years now and gets me out of bed on those days when my covers are winning over workouts. I’ve always been an athletic person. I did gymnastics for nine years. That’s the foundation of my fitness. I’ve also enjoyed playing volleyball, softball, cheerleading, dancing, stepping, etc. Besides sports, I find joy in taking care of my body through exercise. It’s also an immense stress reliever for me. However, I haven’t always had the accessibility to a gym that I desired. Being the determined little cookie I am, I always find a way! Here are a few examples: High school: I yearned for more of a workout than I was getting just at school in P.E. or with my current sport. I brainstormed for a bit and remembered that my mom gifted me with two Beyonce concert DVD’s just because. (Love you, Mom!) So! I turned what used to just entertain me, into a workout! I learned the choreography and danced full out in my mom’s basement every night. I’d also sing along especially when I was tired to engage my core. It was so much fun, I never felt like I was working out. College: During my freshman year in college, I had to find a new normal with everything in life, including a workout plan. Unfortunately, at my university, the team athletes always hogged up the gym and track; so that left me and others with no place to exercise. I REFUSED to gain the “Freshman 15,” ( An expression commonly used referring to weight gain during a student's 1st year of college) so you know I was going to find a way. I stayed in C.J. Dunn Towers, a dorm that has twelve floors. You guessed it, at night time, I ran those twelve flights of steps to keep myself in shape. Sometimes I ran the steps with friends, but often times by myself when they weren’t up for it. I remembered my motto and got it done. I shared all this to say, your health comes first. There are so many creative ways to workout…FIND ONE.
Be intentional with your fitness. If you love helping other people, workout to be strong enough for them. If you ever need encouragement on those days when your covers feel incredible against your skin, just ask yourself...”If Beyonce Calls me tomorrow to dance for her…Am I ready? xoxo, Abnormally Ab P.S. If Beyonce asked me to dance for her, it would be uh YES! Until that happens, I live vicariously through her dancer Dnay B.! If anybody can pull those strings...let me know:)
