Have you ever had a moment when you had a really cute piece of clothing, but had NO IDEA what to put with it?
Well, this series is for you!

The Color Combo & Style Series is simply giving you ideas of how to wear different colors and styles together, in a flattering way.
In college, I used to write down or take a picture of each day’s outfit to remember what I put together. Prior to that, I had moments when I created a really cute outfit, but couldn’t remember what I did when I wanted to put it together again! Worst feeling ever lol.
This series is a simple way for you and I (doing it for myself too lol) to have quick go-to videos that can spark ideas for outfits of the day. #ootd

Today we are featuring the color: Baby Blue

Picture
Baby blue is a tint of azure, one of the pastel colors. It is said to represent youthfulness, freshness,  playfulness, trustworthiness, and reliability.
I paired baby blue in 5 different ways:

1: Baby Blue x Pink

Picture
Baby Blue x Lavender
Picture
Baby Blue x Blue
Picture
Baby Blue x Green
Picture
Baby Blue x Yellow

Those are 5 simple and fun ways to rock the baby blue you have in your wardrobe.

How To: Elevate Your Style - Closet Essentials

“It’s not about the brand, it’s about the style.”
A good foundation is the key to any start to greatness. Without a good foundation, things don’t stand the test of time.
In the fashion world, great style stands the test of trends that so quickly come and go.

So, what does a great foundational start to a wardrobe look like? I’m so happy you asked:)
Here are my suggestions to assist you in starting or revamping your wardrobe with some staple pieces.

1: Oversized Blazers
I’ll admit, I believe I have an addiction to blazers. I just LOVE a good oversized blazer. An oversized blazer is a must have because it can be styled in so many different ways.
With an oversized blazer, the sleeves should come just below your wrists, and the bottom should come below your derriere. However, the blazer shouldn’t overwhelm your frame. I find great oversized blazers a few sizes above my size and in the men’s section.

2: Basics tops
When speaking of basic tops, I’m referring to tank tops, tshirts, button up shirts, and turtle necks in black, white, tan, and your nude.
It’s great to have basic tops, because they are easily buildable. You can throw a jacket over it and dress it up or down with some jewelry. Your choice. They can also easily transition into different seasons well.

3: Good Jeans
Man oh man. There is NOTHING better than finding the best jeans for your shape, size, height, and style. It’s truly like finding the right soulmate. (Too much? lol)
Seriously, when you find a good pair of jeans, or at least two pairs, you will thank yourself later.
Two good types of jeans to have are loose and skinny. This year, a lot of fashion is moving towards looser clothing items as a result of being in quarantine and wanting to be comfortable. Chip Bergh, the CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. says,
“But clearly right now we are seeing a very strong demand for these looser fits, both the men’s side of the business, as well as the women’s side of the business.”
I say have a good pair of loose and skinny jeans in black and blue. And if you find some tan jeans, grab those too.

4: Jackets:
Jackets have the ability to complete a look. Some staple jackets to have in your wardrobe are:
-Jean jacket
-Leather biker jacket
-Trench coat
When you find these, grab them and don’t let go.

5: Shoes:
Aw, shoes:) While there are soooo many cute options, here are a few staple shoes to have:
-Black boot (combat or Chelsea style boot)
-
Black/nude heel
-Black/nude flat
-White tennis shoe

You can easily rotate all of these options with the wardrobe of clothing that you’re building.

6: Jewelry
Jewelry is such a great outfit enhancer. Whether your metal of choice is silver, gold, or rose gold, a nice pair of small to medium size hoops, a nice necklace, and a watch will add some razzle dazzle to your looks.

That is the breakdown of how to build or revamp your wardrobe to elevate your style. If you’d like to see some of the clothing in motion, click here to watch my YouTube video: youtu.be/Ct0fk38MhfE

I am excited for you to explore and find nice foundational pieces.

How To Thrift Like A Pro!

I fell in love with thrifting while I was in college and haven’t looked back since.

Thrifting over the years has allowed me to explore various styles of fashion and simply have fun with clothing at an inexpensive price.

I have found absolute classics from an Oscar De La Renta 100% silk blouse to vintage embroidered blazers. And honestly, the way the fast fashion industry is these days, sometimes I feel the quality of vintage clothing items are much more well-made than some trendy pieces that won’t last you after two washes.

With that being said, let’s dive into the
5 cardinal rules
I use to get the best out of my thrift visits.

#1: GRAB NOW. DECIDE LATER.
I put that in all caps for a reason lol. If you’re interested in something, put it in your cart and make the final decision later. The WORST feeling is seeing someone with something you saw first in their cart. Grab now. Decide later.
Picture

#2: Make a Plan.
Thrifting without a plan is like going grocery shopping on an empty stomach. (We’ve all been there!)
Have an idea of what you’re going to look for, i.e., a red blazer, a black belt, rain boots. A plan will help keep you focused and on track.

#3: Make Room.
Before bringing in new items, peruse your closet to see what you can release first. Yes, we love fashion, but we also love a clean space without clutter. So, out with the old and in with the pre-loved new:)
Picture

#4: Dress properly.
It takes time to seek out those treasures when thrifting. Wear comfortable shoes. If you’re shopping for clothes, have something you can easily slip on and off or wear clothing you can slip things over if the dressing rooms are occupied.

#5: Sanitize.
After you’ve bought and brought those good finds home, properly sanitize, wash, or dry clean your items.
There you have it, folks. Those are my 5 cardinal rules to thrifting like a pro. Let me know how your next thrifting visit goes.

Introducing the “Pay It Forward” Series!
Each month, I’ll introduce you to a company or brand that I’d like to bring awareness and give exposure to. We are helpers one to another, and it’s my desire to pay it forward by using my platform to support amazing brands.

To kick off my "Pay it Forward" Series, I’d like to introduce you to an amazing clothing designer, Abigail Ohene-Kyei.

Picture

Back Story:
The power of social media is SO incredible. I had the pleasure of virtually meeting another Abigail through Instagram!
She reached out to me through DM (direct message) to take the time and tell me how her and her best friend believe they are my long lost sisters lol, and how much of an inspiration I am. (Pause for dramatic effect) Sooooo very sweet.
Of course, I responded back and from there, I friended her (because all Abigails are so special in my eyes). From there, I liked her pictures quite often, but there was this one piece of clothing she wore that I had to stop and comment on.

Picture
She was wearing a long see through rain coat, with African print fabric as the sleeves and fabric placed in the bottom of the jacket. This jacket was FIRE! After commenting, she replied saying she made it!! That blew me away even more! I then learned she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and has her own clothing brand.

Picture
I said “I so want one” and now here we are.
Abigail is modeling Abigail’s jacket.

Jacket Symbolization:
This jacket is a part of her “Wanderlust Collection” inspired by her Ghanaian culture.
The transparent vinyl represents how open minded and clear things become when we allow ourselves to travel and experience other cultures.
The fabric for the sleeves is simply to identify her people.

Her clothing brand page is https://www.instagram.com/_tenewaa_/ on Instagram. (@_tenewaa_ )
We still have yet to meet in person, but I feel her sweet energy through contacting her via Instagram. She also hand wrote me a sweet note signed “your namesake” that I just found a few days ago when cleaning. (So glad I went through the mail packaging one more time before throwing it away!)

Picture
Abigail, I see your hard work, and I’m honored to have your jacket in my collection.

It’s been a pleasure to honor you on my first “Pay It Forward” Series.
Xoxo,

3 Outfits I Could Get Arrested For Wearing!

Do you love me enough to bail me out of jail?
Picture
What if I was standing up for something I believe in?
A 2016 article from www.pewforum.org stated “In many countries around the world, women’s choices about their attire and appearance are restricted to some degree by government laws, policies or regulations. “
Picture
I know there is quite a bit going on in our country right now...(understatement of the year), however, I am grateful for the choice to be able to proudly and freely express myself and my beliefs, which are protected by the 1st amendment.
I live for a comfortable shirt with a good message. It allows me to inspire those I see without having to open my mouth. It's genius.

Picture
While being comfortable, positive, and stylish, these shirts are a conversation starter and could potentially help me witness to those I talk to. It’s no secret that I luh God (a.k.a love) but I’m not one to force my religion on anyone, however, if you ask me about my shirt, I’m winning you over!

Picture
In summary, shout out to companies making statements, breaking barriers, and having a positive impact through purposeful fashion. I support you.
xoxo, Abnormally AB
