Have you been wondering how to bring joy to your wardrobe this winter? Well, I have the answer. COLOR BLOCKING! So, in the past, I was the person that was beyond eager to pull out my autumn tones for the fall and winter season. However this year, color blocking has its foot on my neck and I’m not mad about it at all. Prior to this year, I’d been already focusing on bringing more colorful basics into my wardrobe. I don’t have nearly as many colors in my closet as I desire, however, I’ve been able to work with what I have and make some beautiful color combinations. Now, here at The ABnormal Life, I love being a resource and sharing knowledge. So, just in case you aren’t aware of what color-blocking is, let me quickly enlighten you. Coloring blocking is thought of as the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations. Now that we are all on the same page, let’s jump into some color blocking combinations that you can try during this winter season. 1: Pink & OrangePunchy, vibrant, bold, and fun! Be ready for the exciting attention that wearing this color combination will bring you. This is definitely an “I’ve arrivedddddd” color combo when walking into the room and my extra-self is absolutely here for it lol! (If you don’t want to be as bright, bring in more black as your base.) 2: Red & BlueCan we say primary heaven! Lol. I used two out of the three primary colors and decided to pop it with hints of green. This is what I was referring to when I said I was focused on adding colorful basics to my wardrobe. I thrifted this nice and thick red turtleneck and bought these wide leg blue pants from Tracee Ellis Ross’s JCPenny collection. 3: Blue & GreenI have always loved various shades of blue and green together. It’s a timeless color combination to me and always will be. 4: Lavender-Baby Blue-YellowThis color combination brought me so much joy! I realized I didn’t have enough yellow in my wardrobe. This Telfar cross body is just the right pop of yellow I needed. This is pastel heaven for me.
There you have it. Four color blocking combinations to play around with this winter season. You won’t regret it. Remember: “Life is a fashion show, the world is your runway.” - Marc Jacobs Tell me, which color combination is your favorite? Until next time. Xoxo, ABnormally Ab Well hello there! Head over to your closet, and let's have some fun, shall we?! This month in my Color Combo & Style Series, I am sharing 5 ways to style white.
White is said to represent new beginnings, clarity, simplicity and open-mindness. I know lots of people DREAD wearing white. Whether they feel to clumsy or paranoid about keeping the white clean, or they feel it's not flattering to their body type. I know both feelings. However, I've found some flattering pieces and I'm sharing how I style them. Click the link below to enjoy! Leave a comment and let me know your favorite outfit combination! The Color Combo & Style Series is simply giving you ideas of how to wear different colors and styles together, in a flattering way. In college, I used to write down or take a picture of each day’s outfit to remember what I put together. This series is a simple way for you and I (doing it for myself too lol) to have quick go-to videos that can spark ideas for outfits of the day. #ootd Today we are featuring the color: Baby Blue Baby blue is a tint of azure, one of the pastel colors. It is said to represent youthfulness, freshness, playfulness, trustworthiness, and reliability. I paired baby blue in 5 different ways: 1: Baby Blue x Pink Baby Blue x Lavender Baby Blue x Blue Baby Blue x Green Baby Blue x Yellow Those are 5 simple and fun ways to rock the baby blue you have in your wardrobe.

A good foundation is the key to any start to greatness. Without a good foundation, things don’t stand the test of time. In the fashion world, great style stands the test of trends that so quickly come and go. So, what does a great foundational start to a wardrobe look like? I’m so happy you asked:) Here are my suggestions to assist you in starting or revamping your wardrobe with some staple pieces. 1: Oversized Blazers I’ll admit, I believe I have an addiction to blazers. I just LOVE a good oversized blazer. An oversized blazer is a must have because it can be styled in so many different ways. With an oversized blazer, the sleeves should come just below your wrists, and the bottom should come below your derriere. However, the blazer shouldn’t overwhelm your frame. I find great oversized blazers a few sizes above my size and in the men’s section. 2: Basics tops When speaking of basic tops, I’m referring to tank tops, tshirts, button up shirts, and turtle necks in black, white, tan, and your nude. It’s great to have basic tops, because they are easily buildable. You can throw a jacket over it and dress it up or down with some jewelry. Your choice. They can also easily transition into different seasons well. 3: Good Jeans Man oh man. There is NOTHING better than finding the best jeans for your shape, size, height, and style. It’s truly like finding the right soulmate. (Too much? lol) Seriously, when you find a good pair of jeans, or at least two pairs, you will thank yourself later. Two good types of jeans to have are loose and skinny. This year, a lot of fashion is moving towards looser clothing items as a result of being in quarantine and wanting to be comfortable. Chip Bergh, the CEO of Levi Strauss & Co. says, “But clearly right now we are seeing a very strong demand for these looser fits, both the men’s side of the business, as well as the women’s side of the business.” I say have a good pair of loose and skinny jeans in black and blue. And if you find some tan jeans, grab those too. 4: Jackets: Jackets have the ability to complete a look. Some staple jackets to have in your wardrobe are: -Jean jacket -Leather biker jacket -Trench coat When you find these, grab them and don’t let go. 5: Shoes: Aw, shoes:) While there are soooo many cute options, here are a few staple shoes to have: -Black boot (combat or Chelsea style boot) -Black/nude heel -Black/nude flat -White tennis shoe You can easily rotate all of these options with the wardrobe of clothing that you’re building. 6: Jewelry Jewelry is such a great outfit enhancer. Whether your metal of choice is silver, gold, or rose gold, a nice pair of small to medium size hoops, a nice necklace, and a watch will add some razzle dazzle to your looks. That is the breakdown of how to build or revamp your wardrobe to elevate your style. If you’d like to see some of the clothing in motion, click here to watch my YouTube video: youtu.be/Ct0fk38MhfE I am excited for you to explore and find nice foundational pieces. “ May the odds be ever in your favor. “ Hugs, Abnormally Ab I fell in love with thrifting while I was in college and haven’t looked back since. Thrifting over the years has allowed me to explore various styles of fashion and simply have fun with clothing at an inexpensive price. I have found absolute classics from an Oscar De La Renta 100% silk blouse to vintage embroidered blazers. And honestly, the way the fast fashion industry is these days, sometimes I feel the quality of vintage clothing items are much more well-made than some trendy pieces that won’t last you after two washes. With that being said, let’s dive into the 5 cardinal rules I use to get the best out of my thrift visits. #1: GRAB NOW. DECIDE LATER. I put that in all caps for a reason lol. If you’re interested in something, put it in your cart and make the final decision later. The WORST feeling is seeing someone with something you saw first in their cart. Grab now. Decide later. #2: Make a Plan. Thrifting without a plan is like going grocery shopping on an empty stomach. (We’ve all been there!) Have an idea of what you’re going to look for, i.e., a red blazer, a black belt, rain boots. A plan will help keep you focused and on track. #3: Make Room. Before bringing in new items, peruse your closet to see what you can release first. Yes, we love fashion, but we also love a clean space without clutter. So, out with the old and in with the pre-loved new:) #4: Dress properly. It takes time to seek out those treasures when thrifting. Wear comfortable shoes. If you’re shopping for clothes, have something you can easily slip on and off or wear clothing you can slip things over if the dressing rooms are occupied. #5: Sanitize. After you’ve bought and brought those good finds home, properly sanitize, wash, or dry clean your items. There you have it, folks. Those are my 5 cardinal rules to thrifting like a pro. Let me know how your next thrifting visit goes. Be sure to subscribe to stay abreast of all new blogs!
If you’d like more insight to thrifting, check out my YouTube video here: youtu.be/vm3qvB4bzE8 As always, remember to be uniquely and completely YOU! Hugs, ABnormally Ab Hey! So, we all know that trends come and go. Guess what trend has come back around...sweater vests! And I am totally here for it! Being the nifty thrifter that I am, I picked up a few pre-loved vests and styled them 10 different ways. As I’ve said before, you already know how to dress, I’m just the vessel to inspire you with ideas and then you’ll make it your own. Let’s get into it! |
